Francesca, creative force, and founder, first visited India in 2013, where she spent half of the year traveling around the country as a young photojournalist. While staying with a family of artisans in Jaipur, she was introduced to block printing, a traditional artisan craft that dates back to the 12th century. What she describes as a lightbulb moment manifested into a new path of artistic expression. She began to build what would become Francesca Sandro, a collection of handmade clothing for the traveling woman. A reflection of her own personal style, her clothing is eclectic and fun, while still maintaining a relaxed and effortless vibe.
Francesca believes that closet knowledge matters. Just as we trace our food products to their origins and research their ingredients, our clothing should be treated with the same respect. We should know where it came from, how it was made, and who made it.
Each piece of clothing is produced in small batches with locally sourced fabric and block printed by hand using non-toxic dyes. Francesca has a direct relationship with each artisan involved, and she personally works with them in their home studios.
Beyond designing ethically and environmentally conscious womenswear, Francesca’s focus is centered on cross-cultural collaboration. She bridges ancient craft and tradition with a modern look and feel. Many of the designs include personal input from the printers, making it a true team effort.
Francesca is based in Greenwich, CT, but spends a good portion of her year in Jaipur. When she's not designing, she's either hanging with her 3 dogs or traveling.
